AppleCare+ is not available for Malaysian

I noticed there are confusions in Apple users in Malaysia about the protection plan offer by Apple.

As a Malaysian Apple device user, you might have heard about extending or purchasing extra warranty from Apple would gain yourself benefits like cheaper repair fee on broken screen replacement, 1on1 exchange on accidental mishandling, unfortunate loss or stolen by theft...

You might have event watched videos like on youtube about user can benefit from theft and loss coverage.

Nope! It's different in Malaysia!

Yes, such benefit is only available in countries like Singapore, Japan, UK or US...
but unluckily, Malaysian don't have such opportunity to access to such good deal.

I have a friend confused with the Protection Plan he purchased earlier. He extended his warranty with AppleCare Protection Plan while believing his Macbook got cover from accidental drop, stolen cases or anything that isn't manufacturing defect.

He is wrong!
In Malaysia, Apple doesn't sell protection plan that covers human-made mistake.

Understand your AppleCare+ and AppleCare Protection Plan

AppleCare Plus and AppleCare (without plus) are different.
Let me repeat again, yes, they both are protection plan, AppleCare+ is actually has better coverage compared to AppleCare without plus.

With AppleCare+
This covers accidental damage or loss (benefits: cheaper repair fee / theft / loss).

With AppleCare (without plus)
This only cover manufacturing defect, anything other than that (unless mentioned) are on your wallet.

Yes, we have alternative, but...

You can only purchase AppleCare (without plus) protection plan in Malaysia. If you're keen to get accidental protection plan for your device, there are Apple Premium Reseller (for instance, Switch) offers their very own version of accidental protection plan.

The price varies based on the price value of your device, but the downside of their plan:
  1. it only covers up to maximum 1 year (AppleCare+ extends its original warranty to 2 years) and a year after is usually when most electronic product start showing sign of unrecoverable defect.
  2. their protection plan only available when you buy Apple product from their shop and not else where.

Lastly, I've just got my never-dropped + well-cared + mostly home-use-only macbook pro 2017 repaired (costed me RM2k+) few days ago due to the "screen problem" out of nowhere, while the warranty just expired 1 month ago, and yet I didn't purchase AppleCare protection plan for this device.

The screen displays inverted colour when the lid is open at the normal viewing angle.

So it's totally fate-based incident, with many known + unexpected issues of recent Apple product like butterfly-keyboard, stage-effect screen problem...
I think it's wise to purchase extra warranty (AppleCare) to save some repair cost incurred even if it's not-your-fault, and take it as part of the cost of the product, sometimes the defect would just hunt you unnoticed. Business wise, a company won't recall a product if one defect doesn't harm too many customer.
